Drywall / Sheetrock Installation / Repair
Drywall is the term used for a common method of constructing interior walls and ceilings using panels made of gypsum plaster pressed between two thick sheets of paper, then kiln-dried. Some panels are made with fiberglass instead of paper to prevent mold growth. These panels are usually a darker green or blue color instead of the more recognized color of light gray and are typically used in bathroom renovations or in basements where dampness may be evident. Panels are also known as gypsum board, wallboard, plasterboard, and sheetrock. Drywall construction became prevalent as a speedier alternative to using plaster-based interior finish techniques. Drywall, in contrast to plaster, requires hand finishing only at the fasteners and joints. The drywall process requires less labor and drying time, lending its name to the panels used in the assembly. The standard sheets for walls measure 4 x 8 feet. All drywall sheets are 4 feet wide, but many building material outlets offer 10-foot and even 12-foot lengths. The most popular thicknesses of drywall are 1/2 inch (typically for walls) and 5/8 inch (ceilings). So when there is a need for either doing a new ceiling or choosing the proper drywall for your home repair and/or renovation, Twin Home Services will inform you of which type and size of drywall to choose for the work being done in your home.
Taping
Finishing drywall typically involves three to four days of work and a great deal of joint compound. The type of joint compound that is used to smooth seams and cover nail holes will depend on the size of your room. The entire process, from taping to finishing the final coat, can take four days because of the drying times of the joint compound. This step is the most important in the finishing of drywall. It may look like a "fun" home improvement show weekend project, but it is the skill of a professional tapper that is the magician in getting all the seams to blend together, as well as how the finish painting makes that ceiling or wall look as one. Our Taping team at Twin Home Services has the skill and experience to finish off the drywall, making your new remodeling investment really pay off.
